Cooking with Cannabis

Traditionally, cannabis is synonymous with being smoked, but that’s only part of the story. Using cannabis to infuse with your favorite food can be a great alternative for those that don’t smoke due to medical concerns or personal preference. Pre-packaged edibles are readily available for a grab and go situation, but there is no substitute for the comfort of home made food. There are many ways to prepare your cannabis for cooking, but we’ll be covering one of the most simple (and preferred) methods. However, there are a few things to cover before diving into recipes.

First is the misconception that you simply throw some raw flower in brownie mix, bake, and then eat up. Not so. If you’re making edibles, the point is to make the cannabinoids, such as CBD and THC, available to your bloodstream. To do this, there is a chemical process known as decarboxylation, or decarb for short. This may all sound technical, but it’s pretty simple. Decarbing happens when you heat up the dry flower at relatively low temperature for an extended period of time to activate the cannabinoids. You can just grind up your material and put it on a sheet tray in the oven at 200 degrees for 3 hours, but this gives your house a pretty strong smell for the rest of the day. The more forgiving way would be to use the mason jar method. This keeps the smell away while decarbing as quickly as possible. Once you’re done with this portion, simply let the activated flower steep in melted butter or your cooking oil of choice.

Needless to say, for someone not familiar with this process or cooking in general, this can be a pretty daunting task. That usually leads to people not even attempting it. If you’re not prepared to go the extra mile for that, the short cut would be to buy a butter that has already been infused with cannabis to use at your convenience. We do sell two versions of pre-infused CannaButter. One with 550mg of Delta-8 THC and one with 1,000mg of CBD.

Once you get your infused butter, the uses for it are endless. You can use it to make a sauce for your favorite meal, bake it into your favorite dessert, or simply spread it on your morning toast. But since we’ll assume you already know how to butter your bread, we’ll share a few of our favorite CannaButter infused recipes.
